Brianna McClane

Brian Walton's resume doesn't read like that of a 33-year-old. Walton moved to Washington after landing his first job at the Republican National Committee in 2001 . After a brief stint at the RNC, he joined President Bush's reelection campaign. He left to become a public-affairs specialist at the Commerce Department, and then moved to the National Republican Senatorial Committee's press department before returning to the RNC as deputy communications director. "I've worked at so many interesting places, but each time it's been a new tool I can add to my toolbox, different things that have all brought me up to where I am now," he says.
One tool is his fluency in Spanish. Walton left D.C. in 2008 for a private school in California. For three years, he worked as its communications director and taught Spanish. "I've always used that skill in my various positions, but to kind of jump into the classroom really helped me to fine-tune those skills again," he says.
Now Walton is back inside the Beltway as a director in Howard Consulting Group's communications and media division. "I really like the way that the folks here operate together," he says. "The size of the firm allows us to be very flexible for our clients, but also to make sure we're representing clients that are matched to what we do and what we want to do."

The Howard Consulting Group, a bipartisan public affairs firm, has added two staff members: Brian Walton, a former deputy communications director for the Republican National Committee, is now a director in Howard's communications and media division, while Derek Gianino, formerly a deputy field manager at DDC Advocacy, is an account executive in Howard's public affairs division.
Walton, 33, most recently taught high school Spanish in California, having left Washington after serving as the RNC's No. 2 communications aide during the 2008 elections. He was radio and television director for the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2004 and later held communications roles in the Commerce Department, the White House and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Gianino, 25, had been a special assistant to Republican Rep. David M. McIntosh of Indiana. McIntosh, who was a House member from 1995 through 2000, is now running to replace retiring Republican Rep. Dan Burton of Indiana.
