The national transportation system suffers from too little investment in the past decade, which let aging highways, bridges and tunnels fall into disrepair while needed upgrades were not built, [Senator Bob Menendez] said.
"We cannot wait until there's total gridlock until we act," Menendez, D-N.J., said Wednesday before the North American Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum, which included major contractors and trade groups advocating for a sharp increase in funding. "It's time to rebuild America."
Viaduct tunnel nominated as "Project of the Year"
The tunnel plan was nominated for two awards, including "Job Creation Project of the Year." The project expected to sustain about 4,000 jobs during the height of construction in 2013.
Leadership Forum Culminates in Top 5 Awards
Yesterday in Washington, the North American Leadership Forum ended with the presentation of its Infrastructure Project of the Year awards.
The North American projects honoured (some of which appear on ReNew Canada's own Top 100 list of Canadian infrastructure projects) represent almost $400 billion in new investment and, according to CG/LA Infrastructure, have the potential to put 6 million people to work.
